Introduction
This article provides instructions on how to replace and remount a Ranger Pro endpoint (EP). This hardware is used in hazardous environments up to Class 1 Div 1 or Zone 0/1, and is manufactured by Baker Hughes.
If the battery needs replacing, read the article Replacing a Ranger Pro Battery.
Before you begin
Caution!
Are you working in an explosive (hazardous) environment (CI-D2, CII-D2 ATEX Zone 2, CI-D1)?
Areas are specified as hazardous when they contain (but not limited to) the following three fundamental components:
A flammable substance (which can be a gas, liquid, or solid)
An oxidizer
Any source of ignition
If the environment is hazardous, replace the EP outside that area.
Make sure that you fully understand the required Hazard training, certification, and equipment needed to comply with state requirements, and that you follow the safety precautions.
Follow the safety precautions required by your area/plant when working on or near an operating machine.
Do not attempt to fix an EP installed on any equipment while near any exposed hazards. Personal protective equipment should always be worn.
Use only the batteries that come with the Augury Ranger Pro battery kit! Note that the Kit and battery PNs may vary.
Batteries for Ranger Pro devices should be installed in an indoor equipment room or a similar environment, away from hazardous areas.
If the node is in a hazardous environment, remove it and take it to a non-hazardous location before performing sensor maintenance.

Remove the endpoint
Remove the sensor from the mount and then from the Augury platform.
1: Use the mounting wrenches to remove the sensor from the mount.
2: Log into the Halo app. If you don’t have the app installed, scan the following QR code with your Android camera to download it.
3: Go to the Field jobs page and select the active job. Then select the area where the machine is located.
4: Choose the endpoint to remove using one of the following options:
a) Go to Field job > Machines, tap the relevant endpoint, then tap Remove Endpoint, then you MUST tap Save before continuing.
b) Go to Installed > Machines, tap the relevant endpoint, and then tap Delete.
5: With the Halo app open, hold the phone near the endpoint to remove its mapping to the machine.
6: You can see that the endpoint was successfully removed.
Mount the replacement sensor on the machine
1: If you're working in a cold environment or on a cold machine, use a cordless blower to heat the machine's surface and mount.
2: Apply the activator onto the EP's designated mounting location.
3: Apply the activator onto the base and wait 10 seconds. Apply the adhesive on the base, then apply the activator again.
4: Place the mount on the machine. Gently press the base towards the machine and hold it firmly until the adhesive is cured enough for the base to hold in place by itself. Holding time varies depending on the surface and ambient temperatures.
5: Thread the coupling nut onto the machine side adaptor until hand-tight, then start to tighten with the mounting wrenches.
6: Check that the alignment of the X-axis of the Ranger Pro is aligned with the axial rotor direction of the machine. Tighten with a wrench.
7: If the alignment is not correct, loosen the coupling nut enough to twist the Ranger Pro sensor X-axis so that it is aligned with the axial direction of the rotor. While maintaining this positioning, tighten the coupling nut to the machine side adaptor.
If the EP isn’t sticking well, or it doesn’t feel secure
In a cold environment/machine, use a cordless blower to accelerate or intensify the curing process. Use caution and do not burn the adhesive. Keep the blower at a safe distance from the machine’s surface.
When applicable, secure the EP to the machine using a tether or other Augury-recommended securing methods. Make sure that the adhesive has dried before securing.
Map the new endpoint
Once the new endpoint has been installed on the machine, you must map and validate it to its machine using the Halo app.
1: Log into the Halo app. Locate the machine and then select the machine bearing you want to map.
2: Scan the endpoint using one of the following two methods.
Option 1 - NFC
Enable NFC scanning on your phone and hold the phone close to the EP until the scan is complete. If it fails, enable NFC and scan again; or use option 2.
Option 2 - Manually enter the MAC
Tap T to manually enter the 6 characters of the MAC address located on the top of the sensor.
3: On the bearing page, provide the mounting and orientation details of the endpoint.
4: On the same page, go to the Endpoint photos section and tap the camera. You can take up to three photos of how the endpoint is mounted on the machine.
5: Tap Apply.
6: Now tap Apply to endpoint. This starts the NFC configuration process.
7: Hold the phone near the EP to map the endpoint to the machine. Once the 18-second screen appears, you can remove the phone and wait for the next screen to appear.
8: Hold the phone again near the EP to map the endpoint to the gateway. Keep the phone near the endpoint until this step is done.
9: You’ll see a success message that the endpoint was mapped. Tap Done.
10: Tap Save to complete the process.
