Set production objectives and constraints

The engineer sets the production objectives and constraints, and the performance is monitored against these.

Monitor processes

The Process Navigator enables you to quickly see if the line is working optimally or if you should improve it in real-time.

  1. Click a recommendation status to see the recommendations. The history bar shows the last 12 hours of recommendations and their statuses.
  2. Current status of the production line (see Process Navigator statuses for details). When the system has recommendations, click Take a look/Review now to check them and either accept or delete the recommendations. For more details, see Review recommendations.
  3. See up-to-date values for each set point monitored. The slider indicates how many recommendations are being implemented and how many set points meet the recommendations. These are colored green. To see the latest recommendation, click the external link icon. The recommendations are shown in a popup window.
  4. See the actual value for each key objective, and the performance of that objective over the last eight hours.
  5. On the title bar you have Operational mode. The modes are configured during deployment to fit the production line’s processes.  For example, Balance mode balances between the production costs and energy costs, to meet product throughput while still maintaining the product quality within specification.
  6. Click the far right button to turn the Process Navigator off and stop receiving recommendations. Click the AI button to generate an updated recommendation. For more details, see Request a recommendation.

When the Process Navigator predicts a better outcome, you receive a new recommendation popup. Click Take a look to see the recommendations.

Request a recommendation

  1. Click the AI button to  proactively generate recommendations.
  2. You can minimize the popup, and it moves to the bottom of the pane (3).

Review recommendations

  1. Click Take a look when the new recommendation popup appears.
  2. Click Review now when the status is Waiting for actions.
  3. Click the external link icon at the top of the Process Navigator.

You maximize your line performance if you click the link when the new recommendation appears.

If you close the recommendation window without taking any action, the status pane changes to the orange “Waiting for actions”. This status remains for as long as the recommendations are relevant and no action is taken. Once a recommendation is no longer valid, you’ll see the green “You’re on track” status again.

Review and act on recommendations

  1. The top bar shows the status of the recommendation and the current operation mode.
  2. The top section shows the key objectives for the production line.
  3. Each objective shows the predicted and actual percentages. When the objective is underperforming, the actual percentage is in red.
  4. The current values show actual values for each set point.
  5. The recommendation shows what the Process Navigator recommends as the value.
  6. Compare the values for each set point and decide whether to accept or reject each recommendation. For those recommendations you accept, change the production values through your HMI or Scada system. We recommend that you also accept the relevant decisions (click the tick), or reject them (click the X).
The Process Navigator takes the changes into account while it continues to monitor the line.
  7. Click the 3-dot menu on each set point to view the historic trends over the last few hours for this set point.

After taking action

After you change the settings of one of your set points, you’ll see the “Things are moving” status. The Set points progress bar shows the progress in implementing the recommendations.

When all the goals are met, the status pane returns to Green. The green status remains until the next recommendation arrives.

Whenever you partially accept the recommendations, the Process Navigator monitors the changes to the set points to see how they affect the objectives. It also continues to monitor all the other data points. A new set of recommendations is published after the system stabilizes.

Warnings

A warning is a real-time indication of a risk that might endanger the line at a certain moment.

  1. You’ll receive the warning when the platform recognizes the danger. It points to a value that might risk the production line.
  2. The platform translates the warning into a recommendation to help control and stabilize the values.
