Configuring a Wired Ethernet Connection

Updated over 5 months ago

RJ-45 connector

Ethernet cables come with RJ45 connectors on both ends.

POE: 802.3af

PoE is the way systems pass electric power along with data via an Ethernet cable. This allows a single cable to provide both a data connection and enough electricity to power networked devices. The 802.3af specification provides 48 volts over a 4-wire or 8-wire twisted pair.

IP assignment: IP4 DHCP

We support the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

DNS server provided by the network

Domain Name System (DNS) that translates domain names into IP addresses.

Speed and Duplex

Speed is the rate of the interface, usually listed in megabits per second (Mbps). Duplex refers to how data flows on the interface.

  • 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps Full duplex (requires a full duplex capable link partner set to full duplex). The adapter can send and receive packets at the same time. You must set this mode manually.

  • 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps Half duplex (requires a link partner set to half duplex). The adapter performs one operation at a time; it either sends or receives. You must set this mode manually.

  • Auto-Negotiation 1000 Mbps Full duplex.
